What this app is, and what it is not

Gripcount is an independent Brazilian jiu-jitsu practice companion. It includes 36 solo movement studies in six groups, 12 editable starting plans, three four-week progressions, a timer, a journal and portable backups.

How to use the movement studies

Our rigged 3-D human models show authored solo movements with camera, phase and speed controls. They are rehearsal cues for techniques you have learned with a qualified coach. They cannot show every joint angle, assess your form or determine what is appropriate for you.

The position atlas connects learning topics. Its links are not guaranteed escapes or step-by-step submissions.

Movement field guide

Foundations

The shapes everything else starts from: how to sit, kneel, stand and fall on a mat without thinking about it.

Mechanics

One movement at a time, with the landmark a coach would call out for each phase.

Chains

Two or three movements in the order they actually happen, so the finish of one is the start of the next.

Defence and recovery

Getting back to a base you can work from: off the back, off the knees, out of an inversion, after a fall.

Conditioning

The same movements in volume, with rounds, repeats and rest written down.

Situational

Shapes grouped by the position they belong to, plus the reflection blocks that turn a class into notes.
