Conditioning / Solo mat / Build
Bridge repeats
Bridges in sets, turning to alternate shoulders, with the head resting on the mat.
The same movements in volume, with rounds, repeats and rest written down.
Phases of this study
- Bridge. Heels drive, chest turns.
- Bridge. Other shoulder.
- Bridge. Same height as the first.
- Lower. Under control every time.
Common faults
- Height drops
- Later bridges do not reach the height of the first.
- Feet creep away
- The heels drift forward between repetitions.
- Head lifts
- The head comes off the mat as fatigue sets in.
Why it matters
Bridging in sets builds the drive the escape needs. The set ends when the hips stop reaching height, not when the timer says so.
Drill prescription
3 rounds of 30 seconds work with 30 seconds rest. Eight to twelve bridges per round, alternating shoulders.
Scope
Solo drill on a mat. No partner, no grips, no weight, no pressure and no resistance are shown. Not coach-verified: a qualified instructor has not reviewed the animation or these notes. Never a neck bridge.
Cues the timer will call
- Heels in, drive, lower.
- Alternate the shoulder you turn toward.
- Stop when the hips stop reaching height.
Movement notes: Shoulder-supported bridge
- Feet close. Draw both heels close to the hips before anything moves.
- Drive the heels. Drive through the heels, not the toes, and keep the head resting on the mat.
- Hips high. Take the hips as high as is comfortable and let the upper back turn slightly toward one shoulder.
- Lower. Lower with control instead of dropping.
Watch for. This is not a neck bridge; do not load the crown of the head. The turn shown here is deliberately small: how far a bridge turns depends on the partner it is answering, which a solo study cannot show.
Rehearse, then reflect
Open the visual study to step the phases on the live model. Start slowly using the movement taught by your coach, pause between repetitions and keep the range comfortable. Add the study to a session when you want a timed block, and record one useful observation afterward.
